Choosing AuthorizeNet

AuthorizeNet electronically deposits the money into the checking account of the merchant within 48 hours of settlement.

Processing the Credit Card

Once the information is entered into SalesCart or order form, it must be verified by your merchant processor. Almost all merchant processors utilize a gateway such as AuthorizeNet to pass the information to them. The information is passed from your website to the gateway (using a secure method provided by the gateway). The gateway services have a dedicated connection to your merchant processor. Once the gateway receives a response from the merchant processor they forward that information back to you or your shopping cart where you can act on it accordingly.

 Processing Terms:

Below are some of the most common terms used to describe the transaction. Each terms will refer to a certain action taken by the gateway.

Sale: Acceptance of the credit card for purchase of a product or service.

 Return (Credit):

Is issued when the consumer wishes to return a product or service after the transaction has been settled.

 Void:

Is issued when the consumer cancels the order the same day, and prior to, the settling of the transactions.

 Settlement:

The final step to complete the credit card transaction between the consumer and the merchant.  The batch (an accumulation of transactions from the current day) is settled daily as a group.  Settlement means that the credit card is charged and the money is moved to the merchant account.

Gateway services such as AuthorizeNet are normally provided to you by your Merchant Processor. The fees associated with the gateway are included in the fees that you pay for credit card processing.

The AuthorizeNet Gateway is one of the most popular internet gateways. It allows merchants to have complete flexibility in designing their storefronts whether you have a single item or multiple items via a shopping cart. The payment module communicates with the credit card processor to authorize credit card transactions in real time. Customers receive almost immediate purchase confirmation informing them that the transaction was successful. The payment engine uses a multi-threaded process that allows multiple transactions to be processed concurrently on one server. This ensures that customers will not have to wait in line for their transactions to be processed by the merchant.

How secure is the AuthorizeNet Gateway?
The AuthorizeNet Gateway offers secure online transactions by utilizing RSA 1024-bit encryption technology. Coupled with extensive fraud protection capabilities, AuthorizeNet offers payment solutions which use the safest transaction methods available today. AuthorizeNet Gateway Plug-in wraps around your existing SalesCart Web site, making it able to accept credit cards in "real time".

Virtual AuthorizeNet gives you the power of a POS (Point of Sale) terminal or software without the hardware/software or maintenance expenses. Virtual AuthorizeNet allows merchants to enter credit card transactions into their own Internet-connected computer browser. The program is ideal for the merchant who wants a PC-based solution and appreciates the automatic, transparent software upgrade feature. Customer orders may come from a non-commerce-enabled website, telephone, fax or mail. The orders are entered into an online interface, where sales, return authorizations and reports are all provided through the AuthorizeNet Secure Payment Gateway.
